Christian Louboutin Vermelho Hotel
ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN
Inaugurated in April 2023, Christian Louboutin`s first hotel project Vermelho Melides, is located in the heart of the small Alentejo village, which holds a special place in the heart of the designer known for his iconic red-soled shoes. The designer Christian Louboutin discovered Melides 12 years ago and was so enchanted by the Melides forest and lagoon that he restored a fisherman`s hut to return every year. Due to the many friends who visited him, the designer sought a house in the village to rebuild and transform into a hotel.
Thus, Vermelho Melides Hotel was born, projected by the Portuguese architect Madalena Caiado and Louboutin, following the international trend of signature spaces, while carefully maintaining the rich and distinctive Portuguese aesthetic.
Created under the concept of being a unique, eclectic, and extravagant place, the Vermelho Hotel has three floors and a garden designed by the landscape architect Louis Benech. This garden perfectly complements the blue and white tones of the walls and the sloping roofs. Upon entering the hotel, guests experience an unexpected eclectic atmosphere where each room tells a story and has its own identity, always with details that reflect the charming Portuguese aesthetic.
Each of the 13 rooms that Vermelho Hotel has, showcases its uniqueness through the colors palette, styles, and textures while simultaneously sharing the same warm and vibrant essence that characterizes the hotel. Throughout the rooms, statement details such as the Alentejo tiles that radiate color and tradition can be found. The space also features several artistic pieces, including cabinets with the famous French latticework by Maison Gatti, Pierre Yovanovitch armchairs, and exclusive works chosen by Louboutin. The most exclusive suite in the hotel stands out for its unparalleled creativity, with its wall art handmade by Greek artist Jonstantin Kakanjas, a geometric floor that recalls Parisian style, and walls covered with alabaster.
In the eccentric living room, part of the hotel`s common area, the glass tiles evoke the decadence of Rajasthan palaces. A green Indian marble plaque is adorned with hammered baroque silver panels made by artisans who specialize in creating gleaming church altars. The Vermelho Hotel is a fascinating place, overflowing with the eclecticism and extravagance of its founder Louboutin. It combines the traditional classic design of century spaces with touches of color, harmonizing with the coastal part of the country.
